Maiestas
treason (maiestas)
also: criminibus maiestatis
The crime of injuring the majesty of the Roman people or emperor; under bad emperors it had been stretched to trivial slights, but Trajan here refuses to entertain it.
Reading notes
- The Letters §10.82.1 charges of treason
Maiestas, injury to the majesty of emperor or state; the suggestion that Dio's family tombs stood near Trajan's statue raised it, but Trajan pointedly refused such charges.
